GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) Engines inject fuel directly into the cylinder instead of an intake port resulting in increased power and improved fuel economy. This allows for stratified fuel charge (ultra-lean burn) by using higher pressure and less fuel. While this is good news for your Fuel Economy and exhaust emissions, unique problems can occur with direct injection systems: Intake Valve Deposits, Combustion Chamber Deposits, Fuel Injector Fouling, and Intake Valves sticking.
